It was adapted from the Israeli rom-com that aired for 2 seasons as of 2017.
The show premiered on April 13th, following the premiere of The Bachelor Presents: Listen to Your Heart, a dating reality series spinoff of The Bachelor.
The Baker and The Beauty follows the unlikely romance that blossoms between Daniel Garcia, a Cuban American blue-collar baker and an Australian supermodel, Noa Hamilton, who both come from completely different worlds.

The show’s ensemble includes the main love interests s as well as a brilliantly diverse ensemble of supporting characters.
Daniel Garcia played by Victor Rasuk
Daniel is a blue-collar baker who works at the family business- Rafael’s Bakery.
The actor, Victor, was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Debut Performance for his role as Victor Vargas in the 2002 movie- Raising Victor Vargas.
He was also nominated for a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Breakout Performance- Male, for his role as Tony Alva in the 2005 movie- Lords of Dogtown.
Noa Hamilton played by Nathalie Kelley
Noa is a famous Australian model and entrepreneur. The actress, Nathalie, appeared in her first movie role, as Neela, in the 2006 movie- The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.
She also played the main role of Cristal Carrington in the 2017 Dynasty television series reboot.
Mari Garcia played by Lisa Vidal
Mari is the family matriarch, Rafael’s wife and mother to Daniel, Mateo and Natalie. The actress, Lisa, received an Imagen Award for Best Actress on Television for her role as Barbara Snyder in the 2005 TV movie- Odd Girl Out.
In 2016, she also received an Imagen Award for Best Supporting Actress on Television for her role as Kara Lynch on the drama television series- Being Mary Jane.
Rafael Garcia played by Carlos Gomez
Rafael is the family patriarch, Mari’s husband, father to Daniel, Mateo and Natalie, and owner of Rafael’s Bakery.
The actor, Carlos, is best known for his recurring roles as Mayor Manuel Delgado on the legal drama television series- Shark.
He also played Dr. Carlos Sanchez on the crime drama television series- The Glades and as Jose Campos on the political drama television series- Madam Secretary.
Lewis played by Dan Bucatinsky
Lewis is Noa’s gay, very overprotective manager.
The actor, Dan, received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, for his role as James Novak on the political thriller television series- Scandal.
He has been married to screenwriter, Don Roos, since 2008. The couple has 2 children- Eliza and Jonah.
Mateo Garcia played by David Del Rio
Mateo is Daniel’s younger brother and Natalie’s older brother and is a DJ who goes by the name- MC Cubano.
The actor, David, is best known for his roles as Roberto Jerez in the 2016 movie- The Belko Experiment and as Putzie in the 2016 television special- Grease Live!
Vanessa Sanchez played by Michelle Veintimilla
Vanessa is a real estate agent and Daniel’s controlling ex-girlfriend.
The actress, Michelle, is best known for her series regular role as Marie Joblanski on the crime drama television series- Seven Seconds.
She also plays Bridgit Pike/Firefly on the action, crime, drama television series- Gotham and as Carmen Guerra on the action, fantasy, superhero television series- The Gifted.
Natalie Garcia played by Belissa Escobedo
Natalie is Daniel and Mateo’s younger sister, who discovers that she’s attracted to women.
SPOLIER ALERT- On tonight’s episode (May 4th)- Episode 4, titled “I Think She’s Coming Out,” Natalie will officially come out to her family.
The actress, Belissa, describes herself as pansexual. Her role in The Baker and The Beauty is her first major role.
What makes Baker and the Beauty an LGBTQ-friendly show?
While the main love story centers around a straight cisgender couple, as noted above the ensemble includes several LGBTQ characters.
As out actor Dan Bucatinsky, who plays Noa’s gay manager, tells Georgia Voice, he was drawn to the show because of its “three-dimensional LGBT characters.”
“It is a romantic comedy but at the heart it’s a family show,” he says. “The 15-year-old daughter is dealing with her own identity and sexuality. You don’t see that in an ABC drama that often.”
Natalie’s story is one of those plot-lines that tackles the emotional challenge of coming out. The actress explains,:
I think initially the brother has some inkling about her but I think for the parents it’s a big shock. Things become a bit more challenging after she comes out. There is a lot of confusion as the family is processing it.”
